ad-hoc
Time passing with apathy and vanity. Work has been shelved and new projects started in earnest due to inactivity that should've been corrected quite quickly.
I have been to several exhibitions since my last visit here and continued my residency at Blackburn College's 2nd year BA Fine Arts studio where I gave my first lecture/introductory speech, which apparantley went down quite well. Most importantly, I have started a project which involves punched computer paper that me and Runa found in a disused warehouse in Hulme a couple of years ago. Also, I/we have continued with the menswear vintage/pre-loved stall at the CraftyVintage salesrooms.
So, what to say first? The video piece that Will Kwan was exceptionally good and when I went to the opening (a little too early though) I saw what the other participants did and said. I knew quite a few of them as they went to the same Art School as me and some the same course. It was nice to hear them and to see whatever was happening in their lives. On the same day we went to the Experience Needed show at the Piccadilly Place Galleries. Some works were okay but some was a little better. I enjoyed Elisa Arteseros, James Ackerleys and Frida Coopers works more.
With the residency I have neglected the studio in Manchester but I aim to rectify that with more visits this weeks and next and I'll need to spend some more time at my real studio due to an Open Studio event in February. The enveloped squares are progressing slowly though and that will change. I am still focusing on the folded paper project at the College but with the accidental finding of the aforementioned computer paper, I began a little Christmas card project which is progressing into a mini project in itself. I have been commissioned into doing a piece for a friend which is nice. At the moment the punch paper is at pencil study stage and I quite like the fragility aspect of the work. I'd have to reconsider what medium will be correct.

So I received an email from Jane Brake (senior lecturer at Manchester School of Art) with the previous email attached. I hadn't used that particular email address for some time but I visited it out of curiousity and I'm glad I did really as I would have been too late to respond.
I sent off my statement to Will Kwan who is doing a residency at the Chinese Art Centre and he responded and seemed interested in my involvement. After jiggering the statement to sound more recent, we decided to meet at my studio. As I have started my tenure at Blackburn on the AA2A scheme and already began my project my time is limited and I am glad of the succinctness, we met yesterday.
I have already done some research on who the guy is and I know that he is a senior lecturer at University of Toronto at Scarborough and teaches Sculpture and Art Theory, he has had various exhibitions usually based on cultural and economical relations. Some of his work is quite interesting and installation based.
We had a chat about the basis of his current work which is video pieces of artists reading through their art statement as though they were manifestos. This I find quite exciting and I can't wait to take part. We talked through the statement and what he garnered from it and then went on a hunt for a specific location for my part of the project. As I have a studio in a disused office block, I thought this would be the ideal location. I will be using an empty part of the block. We aren't supposed to be using this part so I will have to either ask or have to do it guerilla style.
Monday dinner time is when we will be filming and it should take about 2 hours to film. I want to be off camera for the main bit and use a chair to act as me. I will be visable at the end of the film though.
With thanks to Manchester based artist Charlie Holt, I have now work on display in Loule, Portugal. I sent a few enveloped collaged postcards and a larger piece to be shown, the exhibition is baded on communication. I am very much proud and priviledged to have work showing in another country.

Call for participation: young artists of Manchester by our current artist in residence Will Kwan
'I am looking for young artists and recents arts graduates to participate in a video project I am working on as the current artist-in-residence at the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Art (formerly the Chinese Arts Centre) in Manchester.
My project involves recording young artists in Manchester reading artist statements that they have written for shows that they have presented recently or for their degree exhibition. I am working with the artists to adapt their statements into "scripts" that will be recorded either as audio or read for the camera in site-specific locations chosen by each individual artist. The collection of readings are meant to create a portrait of a generation of young Manchester artists' artistic, intellectual, and political aspirations.
I will begin meeting with interested artists from 28 October until 9 November either in their studios or at my workspace at the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Art in the Northern Quarter.
Recording with take place from 11-16 November.
The work will have its first screening at the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Art during an open studio in late November.

I am planning a series of sculptures that are based on folded pieces of paper and at the moment in the genesis stage of development. I will be drawing from source and collecting each drawing and folded paper.
I would like the finished sculptures to be hinged with the capacity for them to fold in and out, preferably oxidised metal so that they make a creaking sound but I will have to make do with card and eventually, wood.

drawing project
I have started the AA2A placement at Blackburn College University Centre and been shown around the three art sites. It's quite extensive really. I get to use all amenities and get to do work. I haven't been able to get started proper yet because of lack of studio space.
So, I have drawing again and got influenced by how bus tickets and paper in general get folded and thrown away so I began to record the randomness of such foldings, very anti-origami.
These drawings were all done in quick succesion from a few examples that I collected in the previous week.

Matt Berry
As an actor regularly seen on Garth Marenghi and on the IT Crowd, I thought this would be slightly abstract and surreal, the surreal is there and so is the abstract but is refreshingly beautiful.
I have listening to his album, Kill the Wolf lately and it is surprisingly infused with Hammer Horror aesthetics and is quite lovely. The LP is out on Acid Jazz and I may have to go out and find a vinyl copy.
Gather Up is spooky, Fallen Angel is seventies tinged folk and Village Dance is very soundtrack in style. I quite like the ethereal quality of the whole package and is highly recommended.
I really like the album..Withchazel in which he plays all his instruments and was free when it came out on the internet in 2011.
